Confucius Research Institute, established by the Central Government of China in the hometown of Confucius, is a specialized agency dedicated to Confucian studies. It was set up in 1996 and put under the administration of Nishan World Center for Confucian Studies in 2020. Covering 10 hectares, it has been designed by Wu Liangyong, the academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor of Tsinghua University. What’s more, Comrade Jiang Zemin, the former general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, president of China and Chairman of the CPC Central Military Commission, has inscribed its name. It includes 8 branches such as Department of Academic Research, Department of Inheritance and Development, Center for Confucian Documents Collection, Center for the Spread and Experience of Confucian Culture (Experience Base of Confucius Institute Headquarters), Department of Scientific Research Management. It has 81 staff in all, 57 of which are professional and technical personnel.

On November 26^th, 2013, General Secretary Xi Jinping inspected Qufu city, Shandong province, and issued the call of carrying forward fine traditional Chinese culture. In recent years, always keeping the instructions by General Secretary Xi Jinping in mind and thoroughly studying and implementing Xi Jinping Thought on Culture, Confucius Research Institute has focused on the mission of inheriting and carrying forward fine traditional Chinese culture and strove to become the strategic highland of inheriting and carrying forward fine traditional Chinese culture and frontier and important place of promoting the communication and mutual learning between Chinese and foreign cultures. We have published over 120 academic works, among which The Study of World Confucian Temples and Anthology of the Confucian Stone Inscriptions Documents in Qufu and other works have constituted gap-bridging achievements in domestic academic circles, and The Overview of Chinese Ritual and Music Civilization was selected into “the 14th Five-Year Plan for the Publication of State Key Publications”. We have taken on over 60 major research projects, published over 880 high-level academic papers, and initiated the “Translate-China Program”. We have held “World Confucian Conference”, “Confucius Academic Lecture” and other academic events. We have built the Experience Base of Confucius Institute Headquarters and served delegates from over 130 countries and regions in experience activities. We have engaged in dialogue among civilizations, taken part in Confucius-Aristotle Forum and other over 20 foreign academic activities. We have founded the bimonthly Thinking Through Confucius (Chinese and English) to promote Confucianism to the world.
