On October 26th, the Confucius Institute at the University of Zambia held an “Open Day” activity and the second job fair to set up a platform for communication and understanding between students who are going to graduate from the University of Zambia and Chinese enterprises.
Lai Bo, Political Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Zambia, who attended the fair, said that it was an important embodiment of carrying out cultural exchanges, one of the “eight major initiatives” put forward at the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, and hoped Zambian students and Chinese enterprises would seize the opportunity to create a bright future for individuals, enterprises and China-Zambia friendship.
According to Lai Bo, China attaches great importance to cooperation with Zambia in education. At present, there are about 4000 Zambian students studying in China. Over the past three years, about 2200 Zambians have received training in China.
Luke Evuta Mumba, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Zambia, recognized the job fair as a unique employment platform for graduating college students. He believed that it will play an indispensable role in the growth of graduates.
The fair attracted more than 10 well-known Chinese enterprises. Li Pan, Business Manager of Zambian Branch of China Harbour Engineering Co. Ltd, said applicants were enthusiastic and the company hoped to find excellent talents to push forward the business. Yan Yanru, Personnel Manager of Zambian Company of AVIC International Holding Corporation, said the company has hundreds of Zambian employees and hopes to recruit more excellent talents through this job fair.
The job fair was warmly responded and welcomed by students at the University of Zambia. Chalwe Chipili, a senior majoring in political science and statistics, believes that the job fair offers them a very good opportunity to work in renowned Chinese enterprises in Zambia.
The Confucius Institute at the University of Zambia, established in 2010, was run jointly by Hebei University of Economics and Business and the University of Zambia. Over the past eight years, tens of thousands of Zambian students have studied Chinese in the Confucius Institute and its teaching sites.
